Abernant Gardens
Visit May 5th 2016

Garthmyl, Powys SY15 6RZ

On May 5th twenty two people from Trefonen Garden Club visited Abernant gardens which opens under the National Garden Scheme for Powis. It is situated between Welshpool and Newtown,

I chose this location mainly because the garden has ninety cherry trees, and I hoped that they would be full out, I was a bit disappointed in them as they were not as spectacular as I had hoped, I think that we are so used to seeing the modern cherry trees which are double also they had not all come out, anyway it was a great day weather wise the sun was gorgeous and I think it was the best day of the year so far.

We were met by the owner Mrs Gleave who gave us a history of the garden which nestles in the Severn valley, there is a water feature, and a knot garden. We had a lovely welcome and we were provided with a delicious tea in Mrs Gleave’s delightful cottage which made for a very pleasant afternoon.
