About the Club

Trefonen Garden Club

The Trefonen and District Gardening Club (to give it its full name) was formed in 1986 and has been meeting regularly ever since. Our members are drawn from Trefonen itself and the surrounding villages, and from further afield including Weston Rhyn, Glyn Ceiriog, Llanrhaeadr, Gobowen and Oswestry.

Meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month (excepting August and December) in the Trefonen Village Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Every- one is welcome. The club aims to provide a welcoming place where people from Trefonen and the surrounding area can meet. Tea/coffee and biscuits are available after the talks, giving everyone a chance to chat.

Members have a wide range of interests and expertise, from nervous newbies to the very knowledgeable so we try to cater for all! We are always pleased to welcome visitors and new members, and to share our enthusiasm for gardening in all its aspects.

We have a busy programme of varied activities including:

•                    speakers on a range of gardening, horticultural and wildlife topics
•                    social events such as a Fun Quiz, and an Annual Dinner
•                    visits to gardens and nurseries of interest
•                    visits to members’ gardens
•                    an Annual Plant Sale in June

The Fun Quiz and Plant Sale have become popular local events over the years. The quiz draws its “competing” teams from Trefonen and local villages. The plant sale has gained the reputation of a source of low cost, high quality plants. Queues form at the doors before opening in order to take the maximum advantage of the plants on offer.

We really hope that you will find our group of interest and hope to welcome new, current, past members or simply occasional visitors to our meetings and other activities.
